Li Xian was admitted to the Refuge of Grace Christian Care Center when he was a 7th grader. His father had died years before and his mother had abandoned him to the care of his aunt and uncle. His uncle worked some to provide for the family of four, but Xian was living in poor conditions when our workers first met him.
Xian was in our care for nine years. Throughout the years, every report stated what a nice young man and student he strived to be. He excelled in school during middle school, high school, and college. He did well in Math and English during his younger years. Quotes in his report stated over and over, “He always does his best.” He enjoyed playing basketball and ping pong during middle school, but continued to keep fit running races and competing in high jump competitions. Before passing the high school entrance exam, he would wake up early to study and memorize before
long days at school. He continued to excel in high school and made it into college. During his college years, Xian began to learn tennis and did not play basketball as much. He worked during the summers as a tutor or in factories. He took his driving test during his college years and studied Physics, Theoretical Mechanics, Linear Algebra, Engineering, Car Structure and Machine Design, and Engine Principles.
Read this wonderful excerpt from his report during his 2nd year of college:
“Finally, I would like to say thank you for your support for me. My present life was given to me by you. Without your support, I could not go to the University. I have learned a lot of things. I didn’t know how to make money before and I was not as grateful. This year I have learned that making money is not easy. Your love and help for me is unconditional. I feel very ashamed for accepting help without thanking you. Thank you, my wonderful sponsors, for helping me. I am also grateful to my teachers. I
will be thankful and study hard and hope to help others in the future.”
Xian reached his senior year in college just before the pandemic. His report explained how he was working a part time job and then they were put in lockdown. He could not go home during Spring Festival to visit any relatives. He stayed alone in the dormitory provided by his employer. Food costs became expensive and he was not earning income. With donations from his sponsors, he was able to survive until he could travel again.
Now Xian is a college graduate and has a job in Suzhou Kunshan, Jiangsu Province. He will be working in automobile production and manufacturing. With generous donations through the years for Xian, he has the chance for a bright future! Thank you for your love and care!
