by Dr. Graham Sweeney, Chairman, Agape Asia Board of Directors
I had the distinct honor of being the guest/visitor to one of Agape Asia’s care centers – the Jackson Family Care Center in Zigong, China. Home to the renowned Zigong Dinosaur Museum. More renowned were the children that live and play in a very basic environment.
There is no heat in the facility, often times you wear your winter jacket all day.
All the kids ages 3 to 18 take part in all facets of each meal, from preparation, cooking, cleaning dishes, to cleaning up tables and floors. Most often times the children appear very happy as they exist as a family in their home (facility). They live life as normal kids eating, studying, working, and rest times.
On Sunday college students come from Chengdu 120 miles away to play and entertain the kids. I have never witnessed kids having so much fun with jump ropes. This made me realize how important relationships are, and not material things.
With this life changing experience at Jackson Family Care Center, I also observed a true servant of God. The directors name is Hannah – she exudes true love to all the kids, and great passion to the success of their family unit. She reminded me of a poem by Leslie Lucy that I had read:
The most beautiful women I’ve ever observed are those that have exchanged a self-focused life for a Christ-focused one. They are confident, but not in themselves. Instead of self-confidence, they radiate with Christ-confidence.
Father, give me a heart of praise, let me sing of your beauty every day; give me a heart of prayer to have the power from you; give me a heart of Thanksgiving, so that I may always be filled with joy and peace; Give me a humble heart, so that I can bow down and be a servant; give me a loving heart, that I may follow the example of Christ’s love. Your children, O Father of Heaven, must have your heart! In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen!
